Protocols for: Hand Washing

 

Hand washing is a basic care-giving behavior.  No other activity is as simple and as critical in preventing the occurrence of wound infections.

1.    Immediately upon arriving at the patient's location, wash your hands.

2.    Moisten your hands and apply soap.

3.    Vigorously scrub the hands, especially the fingertips and spaces between the fingers.  

4.    Thoroughly rinse the hands.

5.    Dry the hands.  Use the drying paper towel to turn off the water
